3 Day Sahara Select Tour
Day 1
Troglodyte cave dwellingEl Djem/Gabes/Matmata/Douz
An early start from your hotel to visit the Roman Coliseum of El Djem, then depart for Matmata via Gabes to first visit the 'spices' market. After lunch, travel to Matmata to see the home of the Troglodyte cave dwelling people. Continue to Douz, the gateway town on the edge of the Sahara desert, for dinner and overnight stay in a 3 star hotel.
Day 2
Douz/Chott El Jerid/Tozeur/Nefta/Tozeur
Chott El Jerid
After an early breakfast visit the Saharan oases of Douz, and take an optional camel ride for small extra charge. Leave Douz and cross the Chott El Jerid Salt Lake with a short break to admire the mirages. Travel to the oasis town of Tozeur for lunch. Depart for the oasis town of Nefta and visit the best landscape in the South - The Palmeraie where you have the opportunity to take an optional ride in a horse and carriage. Return to Tozeur and visit the Dar Cherait museum, then check-in for dinner and overnight stay in your hotel.
Day 3
Grand Mosque of KairouanTozeur/Chebika/Tamerza/Gafsa/Kairouan
After breakfast, travel to Chebika village and visit the
spectacular mountain oasis. Then Visit Tamerza and its waterfalls. Depart for Gafsa via Redaief and Metlaoui, take lunch and then continue the journey to the holy City of Kairouan. Take in the panoramic view of the Grand Mosque of Kairouan and the medina with its souks. Leave Kairouan and travel north to your resort hotel.
4 Day Desert Discovery Tour
Day 1
An early start from your hotel to visit the Roman Colosseum of El Djem, then travel via the small fishing town of Mahres to the Matmata Troglodyte caves where scenes from the original Star Wars films were shot. Lunch in the Hotel Diar El Barber then continue to Douz, 'Gateway to the Sahara', for dinner and overnight stay at the Hotel Mehari.
Day 2
Catch the Saharan sunrise on an optional desert camel ride, then take breakfast in the hotel. Mix with the locals in the colourful weekly market in Douz. Continue by crossing the Chott El Jerid salt lake and travel to Tozeur where you will have the opportunity to visit the oasis by horse and carriage. Enjoy an evening visit to the Dar Cherait Museum, have dinner and stay overnight in Tozeur at the Hotel Ras El Ain.
Day 3
Depart for Metlaoui and take the Red Lizard (Lézard Rouge) train through the Gorges of Selja. Continue by road to Tamerza and enjoy lunch in the Tamerza Palace hotel (or similar venue). Visit the mountain oases of Chebika and Tamerza, then travel to Onc El Jmel, location for the English Patient and the most recent Star Wars films. Stay overnight in Tozeur at the Hotel Ras El Ain.
Day 4
Travel via Gafsa to the Holy City of Kairouan and visit the Grand Mosque and Barber Mausoleum. Lunch in Kairouan and visit the Medina and carpet bazaars. You are returned to your resort hotel for an overnight stay before returning to the UK or for several days of relaxation by the pool.
